We are in constant pursuit of opportunities to advance our mission to increase individual, community and clinical pursuits of wellbeing. We strive to support the healthcare consumer through effective healthcare professional education and motivational point of care patient interaction.

MOTIVATION IS INFLUENTIAL

The Foundation’s approach to overall wellbeing begins with healthcare providers through the creation and development of continuing education and online toolkits containing counseling resources to reinforce clinician recommendations and motivate patient engagement. FHSC is the proud creator of the customizable Inspire platform which has been successfully implemented for use with smoking cessation, and expanded to a broader range of conditions and topics.

The platform allows convenient single-source access to condition-specific education, resources and counseling tools that allow patients and providers to collaborate in care. FHSC aims to motivate patients to act after leaving the point of care and maintain a healthy lifestyle every day.

COLLABORATING PARTNERS

CURRENT PROGRAMS

The customizable Inspire platform has proven successful when applied to a range of commonly presenting conditions and healthcare topics. FHSC aims to continue on the path to improving consumer confidence and competence through effective healthcare provider educational programs. Below is a selection of the Foundation’s public health programs.

Inspire Allergy Management

The Inspire Allergy Management program provides

extensive information about the commonly

presenting condition of allergic rhinitis.

This program features a webinar for Healthcare

Professionals that discusses common symptoms of allergic rhinitis, components of evidence-based treatment, commonly available medication and appropriate situations for specialist referral. The webinar encourages healthcare providers to intervene with patients because appropriate treatment leads to significant improvement in quality of life. Also accessible in the online toolkit are links to professional resources and downloadable patient education sheets for use in the practice setting.

The Allergy Management Program was accepted for poster presentation at the Xavier University of Louisiana College of Pharmacy Ninth Health Disparities Conference in 2016. The program was also represented at the 2016 American Association of Nurse Practitioners (AAPA) National Conference, the 2016 American Academy of Physician Assistants Conference and the Convenient Healthcare and Pharmacy Collaborative (CHPC).

The program features an educational webinar that promotes tobacco use cessation through the use of the motivational interviewing Ask, Advise, Refer protocol in combination with appropriate patient education. The full smoking cessation online toolkit also includes links to professional tobacco cessation online resources, links to patient referral resources, downloadable patient education and an interactive social media page in addition to the webinar.

The program was originally funded in

2013 by a 2-year grant. After the initial

funding period, the program was expanded

through a partnership with Centers for Disease

Control and Prevention, Office on Smoking and

Health (CDC OSH). Through this partnership, the CDC’s Tips From Former Smokers campaign was integrated into the Inspire online toolkit. Additionally, CDC OSH disseminates the Inspire training to national healthcare provider organizations, including pharmacists.

The dissemination and outcomes of the Inspire Smoking Cessation program are robust. Conference and industry event presentations of the program and its outcomes include but are not limited to: The World Health Care Congress, Retail Clinician Education Congress, Mayo Clinic Global Tobacco Dependence and Treatment Summit and Smoking Cessation Leadership Conference: Beyond the 5 A’s.
